Poster Night @ 13.12.08

GBC - 2nd Year Poster Night

My poster for A Faulty Plan play, won Best of Show. I was speechless. No wonder the profs were giving me random thumbs up as I was passing by.. I seriously didn't think I would win anything, I just loved making the poster and the idea came to me one night when I just wasn't satisfied with the postcard thumbs I did. I basically got inspired by the other theatre posters that was hung by our school's bathrooms. Those posters had that type of "look" I was going for and I used them for inspiration. Although lots of people utilize awesome photography in their posters, they seemed to me more as movie posters. We're focusing on design here, where the elements on a layout take precedence over actual imagery/pictures. Images are treated just like text, it's the way they are arranged on the page, the colours used etc. that evokes emotion from its audience. This reminds me of this talk I had with a random stranger on the train who was wondering if a picture's meaning changes if a caption was attached to it. What I'm trying to say is that people might have different experiences with a certain photograph, so their reactions to a piece might vary, just like text might prove as a communication obstacle to people (ie. language barriers etc.) Some of the photographs in the posters look amazing though. Now I wonder if there's going to be a photography exhibit in our school sometime soon, that would be awesome!

I just wished somehow my parents had attended the event so they could see all the hardwork that I'm doing and that their money has been put to good use. LOL. I want them to be proud of me, at least my cousin was there for support. I thank him and for his critique, his help, his presence, he's awesome! My friends, family, and that special someone =) also inspire me to be the best that I can be. I love them all. They mean so much to me.
